Reports suggest that the Ivorian soccer federation has appointed former Chelsea and Cote d’Ivoire striker Didier Drogba as the head coach of the senior national team, the Elephants.
The Ivorian legend was quoted as saying “It’s a pleasure for me to be back in Africa and starting my coaching career with my country.”
It is believed that Drogba signed a four-year contract with Ivorian soccer authorities to coach the Elephants with an audacious responsibility of winning the next two African Cup of Nations as well as leading Cote d’Ivoire to the 2026 World Cup.
Drogba, who represented Cote d’Ivoire 105 times, scored 65 goals for the Elephants. In 2006, he led the West African country to its first-ever FIFA Senior World Cup in Germany. He announced his retirement from international football on August 8, 2014.
Drogba currently holds a UEFA PRO coaching license, but the Chelsea legend has no prior experience in coaching.
