2023 African Games: Black Satellites complete clean sweep for Ghana in soccer
Ghana’s U-20 male side, the Black Satellites emulated the shining example of their female colleagues as they secured Gold in the men’s soccer competition at the 13th African Games.
It was all joy for the Ghanaians who defeated Uganda 1-0 in the grand finale at the Accra Stadium.
Jerry Afriyie’s 90th minute strike was all that Ghana needed to add the men’s Gold medals to the medal haul of the hosts.
Coach Desmond Offei’s charges were the brighter side in the game, but the Ugandans remained resolute until Afriyie beat the Ugandan goalie with a long drive just outside the 18-yard box.
The victory means Ghana has secured Gold in both the female and male soccer competitions.
Uganda thus settles for Silver with Senegal securing the Bronz medals after beating Congo in the third-place playoff.
