CAF President Dr. Patrice Motsepe has congratulated the entire African continent for delivering a hugely successful African Cup of Nations (AFCON).
Experts believe that the 34th edition of the tournament will go down as one of the most popular sporting events that took place early this year.
CAF says nearly two billion people worldwide tuned in to watch the 2023 AFCON hosted by Cote d’Ivoire.
“We have had close to two billion people watching AFCON globally. We should be proud as Africans, and the next one will be even better”, Dr. Motsepe noted.
A few weeks before the commencement of the tournament, CAF announced global broadcast agreements with TV broadcasting rights Holders from Africa, Europe, Asia, South America, North America, and the Caribbean.
Among the global TV-Broadcast partners are Sky (United Kingdom), BBC (United Kingdom), LaLiga+ (Spain), SportItalia (Italy), Sport Digital (Germany & Switzerland), SportTV (Portugal), Viaplay (Nordics) and Band TV (Brazil).
The tournament was televised in over 180 countries as beIN Sport, CANAL+, New World TV and approximately 45 Free to Air broadcasters concluded partnership agreements.
CAF took this decision to ensure that Africa’s beautiful game is showcased to the whole world. And the continent’s soccer regulators believe that they have succeeded.
The tournament was held in Cote d’Ivoire who won the final 2-1 against West African rivals Nigeria.
