We don’t want to leave USA with two poor results – Ghana coach Chris Hughton

Coach of Ghana’s senior national team, Chris Hughton says the Black Stars will need to improve their game when they take on USA on Tuesday in Nashville, Tennessee.

The coach believes that another defeat on the United States tour will affect morale.

The Ghanaians arranged two friendly games here in the US as part of their preparations for the upcoming African Cup of Nations. But the first game against Mexico on Saturday did not go as planned as the Mexicans defeated the Black Stars by 2-0 in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Goals from Hirving Lozano and Uriel Antuna in the 57th and the 72nd minutes were enough to condemn the Black Stars to their first defeat under Chris Hughton.

In a post-match reaction, the Stars coach admitted the Mexicans were superior to his team.

“I think we knew we were up against a very good Mexican team playing at home on a surface that they are used to, so we knew it was going to be a tough opposition.

“I thought in the first half period we coped well even though we didn’t create the amount of chances that we would have liked to have done, but I think we had reasonably good control of the game”, the Black Stars coach added.

Hughton is however hopeful that the Stars will correct their mistakes in order to record a good result against the Americans.

“It is exactly the same message for the players. What we don’t want is to leave this international camp with two poor results.

“The result of that is always you are looking for a reaction from the team in the second game”, he stated.

On paper, the USMNT are ahead of their Mexican counterparts now. This means that the Ghanaians will have to give off more than 100 percent to outperform the Americans.
