MLS Cup 2023: Yaw Yeboah seeking to be the fourth Ghanaian to win title with Columbus
Ghanaian midfielder Yaw Yeboah is hoping to be the fourth Ghanaian to win the MLS Cup with Columbus Crew when the Eastern Conference champions host Western Conference champions and defending MLS Cup champions LAFC.
Saturday’s grand finale at the Lower.com Field means a lot to both clubs. While LAFC seek to defend the title successfully, the Crew are looking to repeat their 2020 feat.
Victory for Columbus Crew will be a double joy for midfielder Yaw Yeboah who will join three other Ghanaians for winning the title with Columbus.
In the 2020 edition, Columbus Crew paraded three Ghanaians in the final against Seattle Sounders FC.
Jonathan Mensah started and captained the team. His compatriot Harrison Afful was also in the starting lineup for the Crew while Emmanuel Boateng was an unused substitute when the Crew defeated Seattle 3-0 to capture the title.
Yeboah, who is hoping to emulate his Ghanaian compatriots, has played 36 times for Columbus Crew this season with 26 starts. He played 76 minutes for the Crew when they stunned state rivals FC Cincinnati 3-2 in the Eastern Conference final.
The midfielder who is a product of Right to Dream Academy, has played for Ghana’s U-20 and U-23 sides. He also has four caps for the senior national team, the Black Stars.
