Ghana FA begins plans to revive women’s soccer

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has initiated moves to revive women’s soccer in the West African country.

Ghana’s female soccer in general, and the senior women’s national team, the Black Queens in particular, were among the pioneers of female soccer in Africa. But the female game in Ghana has failed to make any meaningful inroads in recent times.

To ensure the progress of female soccer in the country, the new administration has come up with a three-year strategic plan dubbed ‘the GFA Women’s Football Strategy’.

According to the FA, the plan will seek to empower the female game to ensure a prosperous future for female players.

“The Ghana Football Association prioritizes the continued growth and success of women’s football, recognizing its positive impacts on society”, a promotional message from the federation noted.

The GFA sees soccer as a tool for the empowerment of girls and the creation of sustainable opportunities for young females in the country.

Objectives of this strategy that runs between 2023 and 2026 include marketing, sponsorship and promotion governance, education, grassroots development, league development, and talent identification as well as national team objectives.

The success of the various female national teams remains crucial to the federation as they hope to rank among the top three on the continent.

The Black Queens have qualified to the third round of the 2024 Olympic Games qualifiers and the federation is hopeful that the Queens will book a ticket to Paris in order to give this new plan a well-deserved boost.
