AFCON 2023: Ghana coach Chris Hughton submits provisional squad to CAF

Black Stars coach Chris Hughton has submitted a 55-man provisional list to the Confederation of African Football (CAF).

This is in fulfillment of CAF’s regulation that allows each participating member association qualified for the final tournament to submit a provisional list of no more than 55 players.

Apart from the regular players, coach Hughton added 11 players from the Ghana Premier League to the provisional squad.

Ghana champions Medeama contributed five players namely Jonathan Sowah, Abdul Fatawu Hamid, Abdulai Nurudeen, Derrick Fordjour, and Felix Kyei, with two players – Godfred Attuahene and John Antwi – coming from Dreams FC.

Richmond Lamptey of Asante Kotoko and Great Olympics’ Emmanuel Antwi and Benjamin Asare are included in the provisional squad as well as Nations FC’s Razak Simpson.

It is however not clear if any of these 11 local-based players will make the cut for the final squad.

The Ghanaians who are seeking to end the 41-year trophy drought will compete in Group B alongside record African champions Egypt, Cape Verde, and Mozambique.
