Otto Addo accepts Black Stars job for the second time, names Paintsil and Dauda among backroom staff

Otto Addo has accepted the Black Stars job for the second time and has named his Backroom staff.

The Executive Council of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) says it has approved the decision of the five-member Black Stars Head Coach search committee to name Otto Addo as the next coach of the men’s senior national team.

The Ghana FA has also reached an agreement with Addo’s German employers Borussia Dortmund for his release.

“Otto Addo will be offered a 34-month contract with an option for a further 24 months”, the GFA noted, adding, “Otto was exceptional in the interview process and was rated highly by the search committee, hence the decision.”

The coach will begin his second stint with the Black Stars during this month’s international window. He will travel back to Germany to officially hand over and take up the job permanently in May.

In a related development, Addo has named his backroom staff as he tries to change the fortunes of the Black Stars.

Among the backroom staff is Joseph Laumann, a UEFA pro-license holder who previously played in Cyprus, Germany, and Vietnam. He has also had coaching stints with Standard Liege, VfL Bochum, and Barnsley in the English championship.

The rest of the backroom staff include former Black Stars players John Painstil, and Fatau Dauda

With 89 caps, Painstil was a teammate of Addo at the Germany 2006 World Cup. He played for Fulham, West Ham United, and Kaizer Chiefs of South Africa. The former Berekum Arsenal and Liberty Professionals player was an integral member of the Black Stars between 2002 and 2014. He was once an assistant coach at Kaizer Chiefs and currently holds CAF License B.

Fatau Dauda is a former goalkeeper of Voradep, Okwahu United, AshantiGold, and Orlando Pirates. He also represented Ghana 23 times and featured in the 2014 World Cup in Brazil. He was recently named as goalkeepers’ trainer for the Sudan national team.
