WAFCON qualification means everything to us – Black Queens players

Players of Ghana’s female national team, the Black Queens say booking a ticket to next year’s Women’s African Cup of Nations (WAFCON) means everything to them.

The last time the Queens played in the Cup of Nations was 2018 when Ghana hosted the competition. As hosts, the Ghanaians were tipped to go further in the competition, but the Queens failed to glitter, exiting the tournament in the first round.

The Queens have vowed to make amends this time round, assuring Ghanaians that they will pick one of the tickets to Morocco.

“For the qualification, it means everything to us. We’ve been out for almost five years. Since 2018 when we hosted in Ghana, we were not able to go beyond the group stage. So, this year’s qualifiers means everything to us”, defender Linda Eshun noted in a video message to soccer fans on Facebook.

Midfielder Jennifer Cudjoe who added her voice, said: “It will be an amazing thing for us to be able to accomplish this goal – to return to the international scene.”

Sherifatu Sumaila who is making a return to the team, said watching the last WAFCON edition on television was very painful. She therefore called on Ghanaian fans to come to the Accra Stadium in their numbers on Friday to support them on their way to a massive first-leg victory against their Namibian counterparts.
