Ghanaian trio Afful, Boateng and Mensah help Columbus Crew to Eastern Conference title

Ghanaian trio Harrison Afful, Emmanuel Boateng, and captain Jonathan Mensah played different roles in Columbus Crew SC’s 1-0 victory over New England Revolution in the 2020 Major League Soccer (MLS) Eastern Conference final.

Mensah who is the captain of the side provided the assist to the only goal that secured the Crew the Eastern Conference title in the 59th minute while Harrison Afful played the entire duration of the game. Boateng was introduced into the game after 80 minutes to help protect the solitary goal. Afful and Mensah were among the players who earned plaudits from their head coach Caleb Porter. Commenting about Mensah, the coach said he’s become very close with his Ghanaian captain and center back this year.

“I think he’s an unbelievable person, one of the best people you’ll ever meet, just big heart, really good guy, really special leader”.

The Crew have thus booked their ticket to the 2020 MLS Cup final and this will be Harrison Afful’s second MLS Cup final with the Crew after they lost the 2015 edition to Portland Timbers.
