Contrasting fortunes for Ghanaians in MLS Cup Playoffs

There were contrasting fortunes for Ghanaians in the first batch of the Round One games in the ongoing Audi 2020 MLS Cup Playoffs.

Last weekend’s games saw Columbus Crew captain Jonathan Mensah and his Ghanaian colleagues Harrison Afful and Emmanuel Boateng progressing to the Conference semifinal at the expense of Samuel Tetteh’s New York Red Bulls after a 3-2 victory over the New Yorkers.

Defender Lalas Abubakar’s Colorado Rapids succumbed to Minnesota United by 3-0. Lalas who was named the 2020 Defender of the year for the Rapids played the entire duration of the game but his efforts were not enough to save them.

Emmanuel Twumasi was a second-half substitute when FC Dallas defeated Portland Timbers in penalties to book a ticket to the Conference semifinal. Twumasi calmly converted one of the penalties for Dallas.

In the second batch of the Round One matches, Latif Blessing’s Los Angeles FC will take on Seattle Sounders while David Accam and Abu Danladi’s Nashville SC play as guests of Toronto FC on Tuesday.
