Ghanaian midfielder Jennifer Cudjoe signs short-term deal with Sky Blue FC

National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) side Sky Blue FC have signed Ghanaian Midfielder Jennifer Cudjoe on a short-term deal.

The contract is Cudjoe’s first professional contract after playing in the WPSL for Asheville Shield FC and Chattanooga Lady Red Wolves.

Cudjoe was among three players signed by the American women’s topflight side. The other players include midfielder Nicole Baxter and defender Cassidy Benintente.

They signed with Sky Blue in preparation for the upcoming 2020 NWSL Challenge Cup.

“We are pleased to add Cassidy, Nicole and Jennifer to our squad,” head coach Freya Coombe said in a statement.

The coach also spoke well of the Ghanaian midfielder.

“Jennifer was a surprise coming out of open tryouts and is a great addition, bringing a different dimension to our offense as well as adding quality on both sides of the ball.”

“As a member of Ghana’s women’s national team, the 26-year-old Cudjoe will bring several years of international experience to the club. She represented Ghana in the Under-17 and U-20 Women’s World Cups. She played for Ghana’s full team, the Black Queens, and was named the female footballer of the year by the Sports Writers Association of Ghana in 2015. Cudjoe performed at Northeastern State University, where she earned the NJCAA player of the year award in 2014. She then played for Asheville City SC in the WPSL and was named to the league’s All-Star team on three separate occasions”, Sky Blue noted in a statement.

Cudjoe is expected to play a pivotal role in Sky Blue’s quest to win The NWSL Challenge Cup which begins on June 27. Their first game is against OL Reign on June 30.
