Normalization Committee of Ghana Football Association to launch new soccer competition

The Normalization Committee (NC) of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) has assured that the nation will witness a new soccer competition after soccer activities were brought to a halt after the country’s football community was hit by a massive bribery scandal in July 2018.

“The GFA Normalization Committee is pleased to announce that it has outlined the way forward for the resumption of official domestic football activities in the country”, a statement on the GFA website signed by the President of the Normalization Committee, Dr. Kofi Amoah noted.

The statement further revealed that the NC has created a new competition structure, which will involve all sixteen (16) Premier League and all forty eight (48) Division One League clubs in the country.

The new competition, which will keep all the clubs active during the GFA normalization process, as well as produce Ghana’s representatives for the next CAF Champions League and Confederations Cup respectively, is scheduled to start on January 26, 2019.

Before the commencement of the competition, the NC of the GFA will first meet all participating clubs on Tuesday, January 8, 2019 before a media launch and the official draw of the competition on Friday, January 11, 2019. Registration of players will take place from Monday, January 7 to Sunday, January 20, 2019 with referees holding an integrity workshop on Tuesday, January 15, 2019.

“The Normalization Committee appreciates the quest of our members and football-loving Ghanaians for football to return, hence the extra effort we put in place to find the needed resources for this special competition”, the official statement added.

The NC is also finalizing arrangements for the resumption of the women’s and regional competitions and therefore urges all football fans to embrace the fresh opportunity and patronize the upcoming competitions.
