Ghana – USA clash a game of character – Black Stars captain Asamoah Gyan

Black Stars captain Asamoah Gyan has tagged the upcoming friendly encounter between the United States and Ghana as a game of character.

According to Gyan, the July 1 game in Connecticut may be a friendly match but there will be a lot at stake.

The Black Stars will take on Mexico who are likely to present a Team B in Texas on June 28 before clashing with the USMNT, and according to the Star’s captain, even though the Mexico game has received a low key reception due to the unavailability of the El Tri Team A who are currently participating in the 2017 FIFA Confederations Cup in Russia, the USA clash will certainly be competitive.

“The game is very important because it is good for our FIFA ranking. Although it is a friendly, it is a game that will build our reputation. We will go and play our game and hope we win.

“It will be tough for us because the USA will play at home in front of their fans. But we have some good players and some of them are young and exciting and they are ready to give it all for the nation. So we will go there and stay focused and see what happens”, the Black Stars captain indicated.

Defender Jonathan Mensah who plays for Major League Soccer (MLS) side Columbus Crew SC has added his voice to the upcoming friendly in the US state of Connecticut.

Speaking to KweseESPN, the central defender said the USA-Ghana rivalry is building momentum.

“The games have been intense and there is a proper knockout feeling to the ones I have played in, as if you were playing in the semi-finals of a cup competition.

“All the games have ended 2-1 and we have won most of them so in many ways, this would be revenge or continuation. It is a friendly game but it would be tough to call”, he concluded.
