AFCON 2021: Mane wins MVP award as Cameroon captain Aboubakar takes home the top scorer honors

Senegal and Liverpool playmaker Sadio Mane has been adjudged the Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the just ended 2021 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) hosted by Cameroon.

Mane played a significant role as the Teranga Lions conquered Africa for the first time in the history of the TotalEnergies AFCON.

Senegalese coach Aliou Cissé was also voted as the best coach of the tournament while Chelsea goalie Edouard Mendy took home the best goalkeeper award following his wonderful exploits for Senegal. Cissé has been part of the six-year project that has ensured that Senegal remains top of African rankings for a while and his charges rewarded him with the AFCON trophy for the first time. Mendy who was recently voted as the best goalkeeper in the world during the FIFA Best awards, once again showed his class and claimed the goalkeeper of the tournament award.

Despite not being in the final, Vincent Aboubakar’s eight goals in this competition for Cameroon earned him the Umbro Golden Boot award.
