Tokyo Olympics soccer competitions enter quarter-final stages

The male and female soccer competitions in the ongoing Tokyo Olympic Games enter the quarter-final stages, as host nation, Japan, and one of the favorites, Brazil, remain the only countries with both their female and male representatives still in contention for medals.

The remaining eight female sides will battle for semi-final tickets on Friday as host nation Japan engage Sweden at the Saitama Stadium.

Canada will lock horns with Brazil at the Miyagi Stadium while Great Britain entertain Australia in a cagey encounter at the Kashima Stadium.

The International Yokohama Stadium will be the battlefield for the titanic clash between the United States and the Netherlands.

On Saturday, the male representatives will kickstart their quarter-final round of matches when Spain do battle with Cote d’Ivoire at the Miyagi Stadium.

Host Japan will seek to continue their impressive run when they engage another surprise package New Zealand at the Kashima Stadium.

The other two quarter-final games will see Brazil locking horns with Egypt at the Saitama Stadium with the Korea Republic engaging Mexico at the Yokohama International Stadium.
