Jonathan Mensah inspires Columbus Crew to victory over Atlanta United

Defender Jonathan Mensah scored his first goal of the 2021 Major League Soccer (MLS) season as Columbus Crew ran away with a 1-0 victory over Atlanta United.

The Ghanaian defender and captain of the Crew headed home the only goal of the game when he connected a 65th-minute corner kick by midfielder Lucas Zaralayan.

The goal, which was Mensah’s first goal of the season, was enough to secure the maximum points for Columbus.

With 14 clearance and the game-winner, Mensah was adjudged the Nationwide Man of the match.

The victory also means the Crew will occupy the third spot on the Eastern Conference table while the full capacity home crowd of Atlanta left the Mercedes-Benz Stadium disappointed.
