Inter Miami striker Gonzalo Higuian voted MLS Player of the Week for Week 5

Inter Miami striker Gonzalo Higuain has been voted the Major League Soccer (MLS) Player of the Week for Week 5 of the 2021 MLS season.

Higuain’s two goals were enough to lead Inter Miami to a 3-2 victory over FC Cincinnati at the newly opened TQL Stadium in Cincinnati.

The former Real Madrid and Juventus striker becomes the first player of Inter Miami to be named the MLS Player of the Week.

Higuain scored on the 38th and 85th minutes as Miami coasted to a 3-2 victory.

The MLS Player of the Week is selected each week of the regular season through both media and fan voting in a process conducted by MLS Communications. A panel of journalists from the North American Soccer Reporters (NASR) comprises 75 percent of the vote, while a Twitter fan vote represents the remaining 25 percent of the voting. NASR consists of members of print, television, radio, and online media.
