Ghana midfielder Mohammed Abu joins Boateng and Odoi-Atsem at DC United

Major League Soccer (MLS) side DC United have announced that they have acquired Ghana and former Columbus Crew midfielder Mohammed Abu from Valerenga in Norway.

Abu is joining DC on a season-long loan but DC United has an option to purchase the Ghanain.

Abu, 28, spent the 2017 and 2018 seasons with Columbus Crew SC before moving back to Norway. He made 24 appearances over those two seasons in Columbus.

He played 37 times for Valerenga since joining the club.

In a statement, DC GM Dave Kasper said: “We’re excited for Abu to join the team and add some important depth in the central midfield position.

“He has good defensive instincts and has an impressive passing range. We’re looking forward to adding him to the roster to bolster our squad as we enter the 2020 MLS season.”

Just like Columbus, Abu will feel at home at DC as he joins Ghanaian compatriots Emmanuel Boateng and Chris Odoi-Atsem.
