Ghana defender Lalas Abubakar signs new contract with Columbus Crew

Major League Soccer (MLS) side Columbus Crew SC have reached a new contract agreement with Ghanaian center back Lalas Abubakar, who will return for his third season.

Columbus Crew’s 2019 Roster released on November 26, 2018 also included defenders Harrison Afful and Jonathan Mensah as well as young midfielder Edward Opoku.

Lalas, Afful and Mensah were integral members of the Crew setup that made it to the Postseason playoffs.

“2019 roster preparations are ongoing, and together with our returning players we look to add new talent that can execute our style of play and position the team to return to the postseason,” said Crew SC sporting director and coach Gregg Bethalter.

In a related development LA Galaxy midfielder Emmanuel Boateng who is out of contract has begun new contract negotiations with the club.

As per MLS regulations, clubs who are no longer competing in the Audi 2018 MLS Cup Playoffs must notify the League Office in writing of their players whose options are being exercised and/or players who are receiving bona fide offers.
