American-based Afful and Ofori to join Black Stars camp for CAN qualifier

Two Ghanaian players from the Major League Soccer (MLS) have been invited to the camp of Ghana’s senior national team, the Black Stars for the upcoming African Cup of Nations qualifier against Kenya in September.

Columbus Crew defender Harrison Afful and New York City FC midfielder Ebenezer Ofori are the only players from North America to make the squad. Coach Kwesi Appiah’s 21-man squad for next month’s qualifier against Kenya in Nairobi also includes Inter Milan’s Kwadwo Asamoah who is making a return to the team after a long absence, while William Owusu of Belgian side Antwerp gets a maiden invitation to the national team.

The Black Stars will commence camping in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia from the September 3 to September 7 before facing the Kenyans in Nairobi on September 8, 2018. The Ghanaians are currently leading Group F of the 2019 African Cup of Nations qualifiers with three points, same as Sierra Leone with inferior goals.
