Midweek goals for Accam, Baah as five Ghanaians play in three MLS games

There were two Ghanaian goals in three midweek games in the Major League Soccer (MLS) with five Ghanaians in action on Wednesday night.

Striker David Accam scored his fourth goal of the season for Chicago Fire but that was not enough to save them from a 4-3 defeat at the hands of Joshua Yaro’s Philadelphia Union.

Accam snatched an early lead for Chicago Fire through one of his trademark solo runs just after two minutes in the game and that effort by the Ghanaian striker was Chicago’s fastest goal of the season.

Accam played the entire duration for Chicago with defender Joshua Yaro playing the entire second half for Philadelphia.

Defender Gideon Baah scored his second career MLS goal on a header off a corner kick from Sean Davis. Baah’s header opened the scoring for New York Red Bulls in a 1-2 loss to Real Salt Lake.

The former Asante Kotoko defender headed home the opening goal for the Red Bulls as early as the 7th minute as he played the entire game for the New Yorkers.

Baah was starting just his 4th game of the season since joining the New York-based side from Finnish side HJK Helsinki.

His compatriot Lloyd Sam who joined him on the touchline to celebrate the goal also played for 90 minutes.

Midfielder Emmanuel Boateng played the entire duration of LA Galaxy’s goalless home draw encounter against Colorado Rapids.
